Knowing your skin type.
Skin types generally fall into four categories: dry, combo, oily, and normal. Establishing your skin type is key to choosing the perfect cleanser. Read below to figure out which skin type resonates the most with your skin.
Dry skin
Skin appears dull, is prone to flaking, and often feels tight.
Oily Skin
Skin produces excess sebum that makes skin appear shiny (usually on the T-Zone which is your forehead, nose, and chin), prone to enlarged pores and sebaceous filaments.
Combo
Skin has both oily and dry zones. Typically the T-Zone appears oily and cheeks appear or feel dry to normal.
Normal
Skin has balance and does not appear either too dry or oily. Pores are typically smaller and skin texture is smooth.
Products I LOVE!
These are brands and products that I have personally tried and would recommend. If you find yourself not loving these products, I hope they can inspire you to do your own research into cleansers and find the product that is right for you!
Dry Skin
The CeraVe Hydrating Facial Cleanser is excellent at cleansing your skin without over-drying. CeraVe also has many other products for designated skin types that you can check out.
Oily Skin
The Youth to the People Superfood Cleanser is a game changer for oily skin. This product does an amazing job at cleansing deep into your pores. This product is on the pricier side but does come in multiple sizes.
Normal / Combo Skin
The Selfless by Hyram Centella & Green Tea cleanser has a great ingredient list that is gentle yet effective at cleansing your skin. This cleanser is great for both normal & combo skin.
What to avoid in a cleanser.
These are my top two thing to AVOID when choosing a cleanser or really any skincare product.
Scrubs
Scrubs are extremely damaging to your skin’s moisture barrier and are not beneficial. Always look for a chemical exfoliate such as salicylic acid instead.
Fragrance
Although fragrance smells nice, it offers zero benefits for your skin and will most likely leave you irritated. Always look for a fragrance free formula.
